Smurfit

Three existing water pumps and the adjacent piping were as-built and dimensioned for prefabrication of replacement connecting pipes. The pumps are critical to plant operation, and replacement of the piping required plant shut-down. Prefabrication helped to limit shut-down time.

Smurfit Newsprint Company

For Smurfit Newsprint Company in Newberg, Oregon, we provided design dimensions for replacement of mill water pump piping and for a new sludge blow line.

BBA Nonwovens

Westlake provided precise 3D measurements tying together information on two floors for piping connections, floor support locations, and interferences for the new machinery locations.

We worked with BBA Nonwovens and Jacobs Engineering Corporation to as-built support structures and piping that penetrated several floors. Based on these 3D as-built measurements, Westlake provided lay-out for construction of a mock-up off-site to further refine the new design and plan the installation. Prior to actual installation, new piping was installed, and Westlake verified that construction was completed per design. During shut-down, the control provided by Westlake was used by the contractor to position the new machinery and extruders and to connect the new piping. The success of this procedure illustrates the potential for saving time and reducing “surprises” by using 3D measurements for installation planning and control.

Kimberly Clark

The client reports that Westlake was able to establish control in less than half the time of conventional methods. In addition, the precision of our 3D control has greatly improved the precision of mapping based on the photogrammetric images.

Kimberly Clark

For Kimberly Clark we provided precise field control for photogrammetric mappingin the bleach building, existing piping, utilities, and various structures were located on three separate floors. In the digester building, piping and other structures were located on four floors. Access was extremely limited, and the control network had to be common to all floors within each building. In addition, the bleach building coordinates were tied to the plant grid and to topographic data collected outside the building.
