Heavy Construction
Westlake’s Industrial Measurement Division has provided support to contractors for a variety of heavy construction layout and verification projects. Often these projects involve pre-fabrication of components, complex 3D shapes, or precise alignment.
Portland International Airport - Double Helix Garage Ramps
During construction of the six-story parking garage at PDX, Westlake provided verification of the double-helix garage access ramps located at each end of the garage structure. Our first task was to calculate design coordinates based on the preliminary design drawings. As construction progressed, we visited the site periodically to perform as-built measurements. Comparisons with design coordinates were made to ensure accurate construction. Using off-set targeting systems, measurements were made around scaffolding, concrete forms under construction, and a variety of construction obstacles.

Freeway Overpass Girder Fabrication
Westlake provided layout and verification of girders fabricated at Oregon Iron Works for a freeway overpass in Seattle, Washington. The girders will support a super-elevated over-pass and were fabricated to design values and meet precise tolerances.

Bonneville Dam
Westlake provided precise 3-D measurement services for the location of anchor bolts for installation of prototype surface collectors modules across the piers at the Bonneville First Powerhouse. Our scope of services included establishing a control line, measuring existing anchor bolts on seven piers and marking new anchor bolt locations on six adjacent piers for the surface collector installation. The tolerance for all measurements assigned by our client was 1/16.
